Die präklinische Erstversorgung von Neugeborenen, Säuglingen und Kindern steht im Mittelpunkt einer neuen Reihe der Zeitschrift NOTFALL & RETTUNGSMEDIZIN. Diese Reihe soll theoretische Grundlagen und praktische Empfehlungen für die notfallmedizinische Behandlung von Kindern präsentieren. Den Anfang macht eine Serie von Übersichtsarbeiten, die auf Vorträgen der einzelnen Autoren anläßlich des 1. Mainzer Symposiums „Notfälle im Kindesalter” (7.-8.11.1997) basieren (Abb. 1).
