Abstract
A mass casualty of more than 100 injured persons overstrains the emergency service and relief organisations as well as the hospitals. For this reason special concepts regarding these situations are necessary, as was tested during the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Part of this “new” concept is a treatment area, where 50 injured persons shall be treated in 1 h. Therefore 129 medical assistants and 45 vehicles would be necessary regarding evacuation. Elements of the treatment area can also be used as separate units. In case of a catastrophe it would be difficult to mobilize these requirements in a short time.
