Abstract
The growing importance of endovascular and interventional procedures in vascular surgery has led to an increasing interest in hybrid operating rooms. The aim of this report is to discuss the potentially beneficial effects for vascular surgeons and other medical specialties and to address relevant planning aspects. Hybrid operating rooms enable vascular surgeons and other specialists to perform more complex procedures and offers additional value in the treatment of emergency patients. Planning and realization of hybrid operating rooms necessitate an interdisciplinary approach and should include visiting existing facilities in other centres. The introduction of the hybrid operating room concept leads to higher number of patients and complex procedures, reduces procedure times and complication rates and decreases radiation and contrast dye exposure.
