Abstract
People-centered professions such as nursing will face major challenges in the future. What organizational environment is needed? A high level of participation and strong social support are considered empirically proven characteristics of healthy organizations. These characteristics are also an expression of a positive organizational culture and are thus desirable for acquiring and retaining employees. Health care institutions still function in a very hierarchical way. However, their culture is mostly characterized by motives of caring for people. If these motives are lived, people are attracted by the organization. Addressing sustainability, circle culture and agility could be a key to making the future nursing profession attractive. Experiences of the Appalic Care Unit of the Albert Schweitzer Clinic show that self-organized teams promote multiprofessional cooperation and sense-making. Agile procedures can be integrated into everyday ward life and reconciled with the expectations of young nursing staff of the future.
