Abstract

Hybrid organic–inorganic silica-based materials containing bridging ionic liquid-like entities were prepared, from 1,3-di(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)-imidazolium iodide and tetraethoxysilane. The final material is characterized by a high thermal stability. TEM micrographs of the obtained hybrid material allow its comparison with silica nanoparticles bridged through ionic liquid-like links.
