Summary.

The author presents the theory of the norvegian sociologist and developmental psychologist Stein Bråten. Interactional theories of the subject usually emphasize the social origin of the self and maintain that the self emerges from the mirrorring experience with the other. Bråten's theory, however, stresses that some aspects of the self are not established through social interaction but are anterior to it, and that the subject has a social constitution prior to any social contacts. The notion that the infant from the very beginning doesn't perceive the world exclusively from its own egocentric perspective but is capable of empathising with the perspective of the other, constitutes the second central conception of Bråten's theory. It is this emotional alterocentric participation which provides the infant with a knowledge about the emotional state of the other who is therefore directly familiar. Thus the infant doesn't have to deduce the inner world of the other from his behaviour by means of cognitive operations. Implications for a theory of empathy, for presymbolic aspects of the repetition compulsion and other psychoanalytic issues – for instance Bion's theory of preconception – are beeing discussed.

Der Autor stellt die Theorie des norwegischen Soziologen und Entwicklungspsychologen Stein Bråten vor. In interaktionistischen Subjekttheorien wird üblicherweise die soziale Genese des Selbst betont und die Auffassung vertreten, dass das Selbst aus der Spiegelerfahrung mit dem Anderen entsteht. Bratens Theorie hingegen besagt, dass manche Aspekte des Selbst nicht durch die soziale Interaktion konstituiert werden, sondern ihr vorausgehen und dass das Subjekt schon vor jedem sozialen Kontakt eine soziale Konstitution hat. Eine zweite zentrale Idee ist, dass der Säugling von Anfang an die Welt nicht nur aus seiner egozentrischen Perspektive wahrnimmt, sondern in der Lage ist, die Perspektive des Anderen auf die Welt mitzuempfinden. Diese gefühlshafte alterozentrische Partizipation versorgt ihn mit einem Wissen davon, wie der Andere sich fühlt, der ihm deshalb unmittelbar vertraut ist und dessen Innenwelt er nicht aus seinen Verhaltensweisen durch kognitive Operationen erschließen muss. Implikationen für eine Theorie der Empathie für präsymbolische Aspekte des Wiederholungszwangs und andere psychoanalytische Theorieteile – z.B. Bions Theorie der Präkonzeption – werden diskutiert.
