Abstract

Homogeneous blends of two solutions of carboxymethylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) were studied with respect to viscosity properties at different blending ratios, shear rates and temperatures. The blends exhibited viscosity synergism at all blending ratios, as well as improved shear and temperature stability. Maximum synergism was observed for the blend containing 67% of HEC. The UV and IR spectra showed that the hydrogen-bonding interaction between the blended components is the main reason for the synergism.
