A note on secondary flow in bends and bend combinations

Abstract

 In this paper an explanation for the formation of swirl past three-dimensional bend combinations in pipe flows is given. Supportive and comparative swirl measurements past a double bend combination and past a combination of an asymmetric diaphragm and a following angle bend are presented and discussed.
