Abstract.
Pattern organisation of cells and tissue are specified during embryonic development by gradients of morphogens, substances that assign different fates of cells at different concentrations. Morphogen gradients form by transport from a localized site. Whether this occurs by diffusion or some other more elaborate mechanism is controversial. Here we provide an analysis of two models considered by Lander et al. [4] used in support of the diffusive transport hypothesis.
