Abstract

The visualization of an arterial air embolism in postmortem computed tomography is reported. A transthoracic pulmonary biopsy had been performed under ventilation via a tracheal tube. Criteria for the diagnosis are the detection of gas in the cerebral and coronary arteries and the changes in the brain (parenchyma, ventricles). The pattern of the postmortem distribution of air indicates possible ways of gas transport.
