Abstract

Colour Doppler sonography is part of prenatal diagnosis, especially of fetal echocardiography. Visualization of blood flow in the chambers and vessels illustrate the normal function of the heart. Although the diagnosis of a congenital heart defect is made in B-mode image, the differential diagnosis is made mainly with colour Doppler sonography.

This article reviews the application of colour Doppler sonography in fetal echocardiography and describes, in detail, the possibilities for optimizing the B-mode, and colour imaging. We also discuss new colour techniques and the typical findings of various congenital heart defects with colour Doppler sonography.
