Feeding disorders in early childhood

Zusammenfassung

Frühkindliche Fütterstörungen sind häufige Probleme in der pädiatrischen Praxis. Sie gehen mit einem erheblichen Leidensdruck der betroffenen Kinder und Eltern einher und können, insbesondere bei Gedeihstörungen, zu einer langfristigen Gefährdung der kindlichen Entwicklung und der Eltern-Kind-Beziehungen führen. Kindliche somatische Belastungen, Temperamentseigenschaften sowie frühe Geschmacks- und sensorische Erfahrungen stehen in enger Wechselwirkung mit elterlichen Verhaltensweisen und psychischen Belastungen. Die Therapie sollte auf einer interdisziplinären Diagnostik des Fütterprozesses beruhen und in enger Zusammenarbeit zwischen den verschiedenen Berufsgruppen nach einem multimodalen Behandlungskonzept erfolgen.

Abstract

Feeding disorders in early childhood are frequently seen in pediatric practice and often result in considerable suffering of the child and his or her parents. Such disorders may – particularly when associated with an infant’s failure to thrive – lead to a long-term risk of harm both to the child’s development and to the parent-child relationship. Child-related somatic risks, the child’s temperament, and early taste and sensory experiences are closely interrelated with parental behaviors and emotional distress. Therapy should be based on an interdisciplinary diagnostic workup of the feeding process and be guided by multiprofessional cooperation.
