Abstract
Two children presented with reddish streaks on their skin, which raised the suspicion of child abuse. Examination of the cases revealed that the origin of the petechial bleeding was a special Asian massage technique, cao gio. It is a medical practice from Vietnamese folklore and not to be seen as child maltreatment. The two reported cases show the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork among health professionals involved in child examination in order to avoid misinterpretation.
