Solvability of initial-boundary value problems in bending of plates

Abstract.

The solvability is investigated of the displacement and traction initial-boundary problems for plates with transverse shear deformation. Existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on the data are proved for distributional solutions in Sobolev-type spaces. Different approaches are used for interior and exterior problems, since the relevant operators lose their compactness in exterior domains.
