Distribution quantitative du méiobenthos profond dans la région de la dorsale de Walvis (Sud-Ouest Africain)

Abstract

The distribution of deep-sea meiobenthos near the Walvis ridge has been studied during the Walda-cruise of the R.V. ‘Jean Charcot”. Using the Reineok box-sampler, 10 meiobenthos samples were made. The quantitative meiofauna distribution is different on each side of the ridge. Population densities attain maximum values in the Cape Basin. The methods employed for deep-sea meiobenthos collection are evaluated. Results obtained are discussed and compared with previous information, especially from the Iceland-Faroe area.

    Pendant la campagne Walda du N.O ‘Jean Charcot”, 10 prélèvements méiobenthiques ont été effectués dans la région de la dorsale de Walvis à l'aide d'un carottier Reineck.

    Les méthodes de collecte du méiobenthos profond sont discutées.

    L'étude de ces prélèvements révèle und distribution quantitative hétérogène de la méiofaune de part et d'autre de la dorsale, le bassin du Cap étant le plus riche.

    Les résultats sont comparés avec les données antérieures et notamment celles qui concernent la région du seuil Islande-Färöer.
