Abstract

The relation between main- and normal-mode relaxation is studied on poly(propyleneoxide) of different molecular weights by dielectric measurements in a very large frequency range. The evaluation by a special technique shows a merging of α-relaxation and of normal-mode relaxation at an essential higher temperature than the Vogel temperature of the α-relaxation. This means the Rouse model is not applicable to the normal-mode relaxation near the glass transition temperature.
