Summary

Aceclofenac is a new anti-inflammatory analgesic structurally related to diclofenac in this double-blind randomised study, 50, 100 or 150mg doses or placebo were administered to patients with moderate to severe pain following extraction of a mandibular third molar.

The efficacy of all 3 doses of aceclofenac was considered by both patients and investigators to be superior to that of placebo. Furthermore, there were significant differences between the 50 and 100mg doses on the investigator’s and overall assessments. No adverse effects were observed in any patients.

On the basis of the results obtained in this study, aceclofenac appears to have a marked analgesic effect, which is superior to that of placebo, in patients with moderate to severe pain following oral surgery.
