Interventions directed at the social and physical environment to prevent health.

‘De wijk: een bron van energie’ (The neighborhood, a source of energy) is a pilot project that was coordinated by The Netherlands Institute for Sport and Physical Activity (NISB). Pilots were carried out in six municipalities to address change in the social and physical environment of health. Results show that the projects were successful in achieving collaboration, in training professionals, in involving parents and in making policy for healthy nutrition and physical activity. The pilots were supported by a national organization structure that facilitated the exchange of knowledge and that provided methods and tools to develop, implement and evaluate interventions.
