Gussekloo, J. Preventie bij ouderen: focus op zelfredzaamheid. Huisarts Wet 2009;52(9):426-7. Recentelijk adviseerde de Gezondheidsraad om preventie bij ouderen een belangrijke plaats te geven. Hierbij is het behoud van zelfredzaamheid een nieuw, belangrijk doel. Deze functioneringsgerichte preventie kan voor alle ouderen goede effecten opleveren, ondanks grote verschillen in gezondheid en zelfredzaamheid. Toch is hierover nog niet veel wetenschappelijk onderzoek gedaan. Dit rapport daagt de huisarts uit tot een proactieve en functionele aanpak, met aandacht voor individuele verschillen tussen ouderen.

Recently the Dutch Health Council advised that prevention should be an important aspect in the care for the elderly. Preserving independency and wellbeing is a new, important focus in prevention, which could be beneficial for all old persons, despite the large heterogeneity in their health en self-sufficiency. However, the effects of most preventive actions in the elderly have not yet been investigated. Nonetheless, this advice of the Dutch Health Council challenges the Dutch general practitioners to initiate a pro-active and functional approach in their care for the elderly.
