Summary

Giant cell arteritis is a systemic disease of unknown origin characterized by vasculitis of mediumsized and larger vessels, found mainly in elderly women. It presents with a variety of symptoms, including temporal pain and tenderness, headache, and neuro-ophthalmic features. This report describes a case of giant cell arteritis in a 78-year-old woman with a large ulceration on the right side of the tongue, painful lesion in the right temporal area, and recent visus loss of the right eye.

Zusammenfassung

Die Riesenzellarteriitis (RZA), eine systemische Erkrankung unbekannter Ursache, ist charakterisiert durch eine Vaskulitis mittlerer und größerer Gefäße und tritt hauptsächlich bei älteren Frauen auf. Die Symptome sind vielfältig, darunter zeitweise Schmerzen und Überempfindlichkeit, Kopfweh und neuroophthalmische Beeinträchtigungen. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird der Fall einer 78jährigen Frau mit RZA geschildert; die Patientin hatte ein großes Ulkus an der rechten Zungenseite, eine schmerzhafte Läsion im Bereich der rechten Schläfe und seit kurzem einen Visusverlust des rechten Auges.
