Abstract
During preparations for EXPO 2000, temporary exposures of Jurassic sediments were sampled for micropaleontological analysis. Together with additional samples from quarries in the Ith and Süntel hills, these samples have yielded a number of rare and new index species for the biostratigraphic subdivision of stages and substages. The following new genera and species were identified: the foraminifersAmmobaculites giganteus n. sp.,Eoflabellina praeovalis n. sp. and the ostracodesKinkelinella langelsheimensis n. sp.,Palaeocytheridea bicostata n. sp.,Rectocythere suentelensis n. sp.,Plumhofficythere clavatoides n. gen. n. sp. Besides the identification of new genera and species, the foraminiferal speciesFalsopalmula tenuistriata favus Bartenstein 1994 was identified as an index fossil for the Upper Toarcian for the first time in NW Germany.Amphicythere valcolorensis Glashoff 1964 was identified for the first time in the Upper Oxfordian in N Germany.
The taxonomic classification of the Ostracode genusKinkelinella and misleading reports onKinkelinella translucens (Blake 1876) are also discussed.
