Conclusion
Any method used for pain relief in the adult patient can be adapted for pain relief in the paediatric patient. Children have the same right to pain relief as do adults, even if their pain is more difficult to assess. More frequent use of NSAIDs is recommended. An increased response to the challenge of acute pain treatment with regional analgesic techniques in the paediatric outpatient will also be useful, with more continuous catheter techniques employed in hospitalized patients. Certainly, we have the responsibility to provide optimum pain relief for all patients, not just for those who can complain in a way that is easy to understand.
