Neue Pflanzenfossilien aus der niederrheinischen Braunkohle IIPolyspora kilpperi nova spec. (Theaceae) aus dem Obermiozän des Tagebaues Zukunft-West bei Eschweiler/Rhld

Abstract

Fossil parts of a capsule ofPolyspora kilpperi nova spec. (Theaceae) are described here. They can be compared with capsules of the recentPolyspora axillaris (Roxb. ex Lindl.) Sweet. The latter species grows in Broad-leaved Forests of Central- and Southern China and on Taiwan and can be regarded as a tropical-subtropical element. The fossils suggest good climatological conditions in the Upper Miocene of the Rhenish area.

Zusammenfassung

Es werden fossile Kapselreste der TheaceenartPolyspora kilpperi nova spec. beschrieben, die sich mit der rezentenPolyspora axillaris (Roxb. ex Lindl.) Sweet vergleichen lassen. Letztere Art kommt in »Broad-leaved Forests« Zentral- und Süd-Chinas und Taiwans vor und ist als tropisch-subtropisches Element zu bezeichnen. Die fossilen Reste geben Hinweise auf günstige klimatische Bedingungen im Obermiozän des Rheinlandes.
