Goldschmidt’s theory of sex determination inLymantria

Summary

Goldschmidt’s theory of sex-determination inLymantria demands a maternal cytoplasmatic inheritance of a feminine element.

It is demonstrated that the adoption of this view is unnecessary, and that the acceptance of sex-genes distributed on all autosomes together, some pulling in masculine, some in feminine direction, will account for the main results in Goldschmidt’s experiments including the results that Goldschmidt regards as conclusively proving his cytoplasma theory.
