Summary

Two nutrient media were prepared, on which the growth and development of populations ofChlorella pyrenoidosa andChlorella vulgaris var.viridis were biologically the same. On medium both species of Chlorella proliferated chiefly by division of the cells into two autospores, whereas on medium A different numbers of autospores were formed from maternal cells of different sizes.Chlorella protothecoides, which is maintained in the collection only on media containing Witte peptone or yeast extract, also grew on medium B. Division of the two former species of Chlorella was more intensive on medium than on medium A.
