Summary
In this paper we consider the influence of torsion on neutrino oscillations: if we allow for lepton number nonconservation and the possibility of flavour mixing in a space with torsion, it follows that the phenomenological neutrinos produced in the charged-current weak interactions are not, in general, the eigenstates of the torsional Hamiltonian, and then oscillations can occur due to torsion. It is shown that oscillations are possible even if the neutrino masses are all degenerate (but nonzero), and even if neutrinos are massless: in this last case, however, only the Einstein-Cartan torsion can produce oscillations. The torsion eigenstates are interpreted as different mixtures of right-handed and left-handed fields, and it is predicted a deviation of the weak neutrino current from the standardV-A form. We consider Weyl, Dirac and Majorana neutrinos, and we discuss first- and second-class oscillations. The oscillation lengths and the mixing angles are evaluated, and it is shown that in the case of strong gravity the oscillations can be strongly damped or enhanced by torsion.
