Summary
Russet Burbank plants subjected to a short period of stress produced a greater per cent of malformed tubers than plants grown continuously under moisture stress. Various root medium stress levels up to 5 bars did not differentially affect tuber shape.
The respiration rate of tuber tissue discs was affected by various environmental factors such as air temperature. Tuber tissue respiration rate could be correlated with tuber malformation. Treatments with high respiration rates produce the greater quantity by weight of malformation.
