Abstract

The origin, history, botanical description, ecology, soils, pests, and diseases of the fiber plant curagua (Ananas lucidus, Bromeliaceae) are presented in an attempt to promote its cultivation and thus improve the income of the inhabitants of the Venezuelan tropical rainforest.

El origen, descriptión botánica, ecología, suelos, plagas, y enfermedades de la curagua (Ananas lucidus, Bromeliaceae) son discutidos, en un intento por estimular su siembra y así, mejorar los ingresos de las etnias que habitan el bosque tropical húmedo de Venezuela.
