Author’s Note (Added as The Botanical Review goes to press) After submission of this paper, Dr. R. P. Sutter described the observation that a compound, extracted from aplus culture ofBlakeslea trispora, is converted to trisporic acid C when applied to aminus culture of the same fungus (Science168: 1590–1592. 1970). This result seems to be at variance with our hypothesis elaborated above.
