III — Degenerate cases of second class

Summary

In a recent paper (3), I gave the solution of Einstein’s first set of equations of unified field theory, by the method of repeated substitution, and obtained the conditions for the existence and uniqueness of the solution for the first two classes ofk λμ and for all indices of inertia ofh λμ (*). The object of this paper is to study the solutions in the singular cases of the second class when these conditions are not satisfied. It may, however, be noted thatHlavatý (1) studied the singular solutions both in non-holonomic form and holonomic form. In this paper, the singular solutions will be obtained in other holonomic forms using the solution obtained by me (3) for non-degenerate case.

Riassunto

In un recente lavoro (3) ho dato la soluzione del primo sistema di equazioni della teoria unificata dei campi di Einstein servendomi del metodo delle sostituzioni ripetute, ed ho trovato le condizioni per l’esistenza e l’unicità della soluzione per le prime due classi dik λμ e per tutti gli indici di inerzia dih λμ (+). Oggetto del presente lavoro è lo studio delle soluzioni dei casi singolari della seconda classe in cui queste condizioni non siano soddisfatte. Si deve, tuttavia, notare cheHlavaty (1) ha studiato le soluzioni singolari in forma sia olonoma che non olonoma. Nel presente lavoro le soluzioni singolari saranno date in altre forme olonome usando le soluzioni da me ottenute (3) per il caso non degenerato.
