The relationship between peroxidase activity in potato leaves and resistance toPhytophthora infestans

  • Published:
American Potato Journal Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Peroxidase activity was found to be positively correlated with field resistance inSolanum tuberosum L. but not inS. demissum L. and its derivatives. Tehes results confirm earlier suggestions taht peroxidase activity could be used as a test of field resistance associated withS. tuberosum. Light, leaf age, and virus infection influenced the level of field resistance inS. tuberosum, and conditions which decreased peroxidase activity. The field resistance found inS. demissum and its derivatives was not correlated with peroxidase activity. It was suggested that field resistance in S.demissum could be a resistance to ingression, and that field resistance inS. tuberosum could be considered as resistance to invasion.
