The analysis of V0 decays when the errors of measurement are large

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1943-1954)

Summary

The identification of V0 decays, starting from the now establishedQ-values for the Λ0 and θ0-particles, is discussed. A method of separating Λ0 and θ0-particles is described; it demands measurements only of the negative secondary momentum and of the angle between the secondary tracks. Curves are given which facilitate calculations ofQ-values. Since, if the errors of measurement are large, standard errors inQ are unreliable, curves are given by means of which the compatibility of any given event with Λ0 and θ0-decay may be checked. The effect of instrumental and selection bias on the interpretation of anomalous Vo decays is considered.
