Mass difference of neutral K mesons

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

The mass difference ΔM between the K 01 and K 02 mesons has been investigated by producing K0 mesons and observing the K0 component of the K0-K0 admixture as a function of time. The K0’s were sampled by using the charge exchange process and detecting the resulting K- mesons. The best value for the mass difference is ΔM=1.9 ± 0.3ħ/τ1c2 where τ1 is the mean life of the K 01 . However, selected high mass-differences (ΔM > 10) are also consistent with the data.
