Summary
A theory on the production of the mesonic component in cosmic radiation is developed starting from assumption of the existence at the limit of the atmosphere of a primary radiation consisting of protons having an integral energy spectrum proportional toE −s. Drawing suggestion from meson theories it is assumed that mesons (π) are created through the interaction of two nucleons following the schema:
Supposing that the kinetical energy of the incident nucleon be in part transferred to the formed meson and that the rest part is subdivided between incident and shocked nucleon, a calculation is made on distribution law, in the atmosphere, for protonic and neutronic components producing mesons, on differential meson energetic spectrum at different depths and on meson positive excess in respect to atmospheric depth and to energy. The results obtained are shown in Figures. The agreement between the theory developed in this paper and experience is finally discussed.
