Summary
As a test of the applicability of the perturbation expansion in the theory of weak interactions the μ → 3e decay has been considered. The weak interactions are given in the usual current × current form including quadratis terms like (ēν)(ν̄e). The best value so far available for the branching ratio μ → 3e/μ → e+ν+ν̄ then requires a cut-off at 90 GeV to make the theoretical predictions compatible with the experimental findings. This cut-off is in agreement with the cut-off obtained in μ → e+γ decay discussed earlier by Ioffe.
