Modulation of the optical absorption of F centers in KC1

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

An experiment is described in which the optical absorption of theF band of a KCl crystal is modulated by means of an ultrasonic strain. If the description of the effect is based on the usual configurational co-ordinate model, the amplitude of the energy modulation of the optical transition is equal to kex0aε = 3.8ε eV, whereε is the uniaxial strain along one of the principal crystal axes,k e and x0 are constants describing the excited electronic state in the conflgurational co-ordinate model anda is the lattice constant.
