Alternative promoters and RNA processing in expression of the eukaryotic genome

Abstract

Mechanisms of generation of multiple mRNA isoforms in eukaryotic gene expression are reviewed. The contributions of alternative promoter usage, alternative splicing, and mRNA editing to transcript diversity in eukaryotic cells are evaluated. The possible implication of RNA diversity in the eukaryotic genome evolution is discussed.
