Monte carlo calculations of the lifetime of heavy hyperfragments

Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

The results of the Monte Carlo calculations of the decays of spallation hyperfragments (massA ∼ 20 toA ∼ 90) produced from 1.5 and 3.5 GeV/c K interactions for various values of the lifetime are presented. The forward/backward asymmetry of the recoils at the decay point with respect to the hyperfragments is used to infer the lifetime. The results of the Monte Carlo calculations are compared with the experimental data of 235 events. It is estimated that the mean lifetime of such hyperfragments is about (2±1)·10−12 s.
