Glauber shadow and inelastic contributions to πd scattering

Summary

The contribution of inelastic intermediate states in the elastic πd scattering is estimated using a Regge-pole model. It is shown that this effect can fill the dip which otherwise should be present in the differential cross-section.

  19. In a recent preprint (E. Coleman andT. G. Rhoades: Minnesota preprint 1968) the disappearance of the dip is attributed to the effect of theD-wave. In this case the dip would still be present in scattering over polarized deuterons, while in our case it would not be so.
