A consistent operator solution for the thirring model

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

The Thirring model is examined with the interacting currents redefined to be limits of non-local expressions, as proposed by Johnson. The most general solution to the new equation of motion is obtained as an operator functional of a canonical free field, its current, and the current of the interacting field. Since the latter also satisfies the free field wave equation, this is then an exploit solution for the interacting field operator. It is shown that this solution is completely consistent in the sense that the operator representative of a product is equal to the product of the operator representatives. The Hilbert space is defined, some renormalized matrix element are calculated, and the results are compared with those obtained using the conventional, inconsistent formalism, and with Johnson’s results.
