α-particle model of20Ne and24Mg

Summary

The α-particle model has been applied to the20Ne and24Mg nuclei taking as equilibrium structures a trigonal and tetragonal bipyramid, respectively. The model easily reproduces four of the five low-lying rotational bands in20Ne, and all low-energy levels with known spin and parity in24Mg are found in the theoretical spectrum. However, because of the many vibrational degrees of freedom and the small symmetry groups, there are so many rotational bands and undetermined parameters that the fits become much less significant. More new experimental levels are needed to test the α-particle predictions.

Si e applicato il modello a particelle a ai nuclei del20Ne e del24Mg prendendo come strutture di equilibrio rispettivamente la piramide trigonale e quella tetragonale. II modello riproduee bene quattro delle cinque bande rotazionali basse del20Ne, e tutti i livelli di bassa energia con spin e parità note del24Mg si ritrovano nello spettro teorico. Tuttavia dato il gran numero di gradi di libertà vibrazionali e i piccoli gruppi di simmetria, ci sono tante bande rotazionali e parametri indeterminati che l’accordo diventa molto meno significativo. Ancora altri livelli sperimentali nuovi sono necessari per verificare le predizioni del modello a particelle α.
