Abstract

Blood samples were obtained from 18 stone curlews (Burhinus oedicnemus) as part of a study on health and disease in this species. Routine haematology and blood chemistry analyses were carried out to establish normal reference values for captive adult stone curlews. The results obtained are compared with information available for the Cape thick-knee (Burhinus capensis) and values originated from similar studies carried out in bustards.
