Summary
The proton-hydrogen charge transfer collision in the presence of a laser field is investigated. To describe the interaction of the bound electron with the field, both the electric-dipole interaction −e E·r and the Coulomb gauge interaction −(e/mc) A·p are taken. The problem is studied in the familiar atomic two-state expansion within the impact parameter method, the laser field being taken in the dipole approximation. The transition probability is obtained as a function of the amplitude and the frequency of the field. Calculations of the total cross-sections show that only the −e E·r interaction yields reliable results, and that sufficiently intense laser fields can considerably enhance the charge exchange cross-sections. While the total cross-sections are found to be proportional to the field amplitude, the dependence on the field frequency is roughly inversely proportional. The cross-sections are found to be sensitive also to the direction of the field with respect to the scattering plane. Electric fields orthogonal to the scattering plane do not modify the cross-section and the effect is zero also when the field lies on the scattering plane, but is of cosinusoidal form and in the same direction of the velocityv or sinusoidal form and orthogonal tov.
