Summary
Out of 2.100 alder-originally established as shelterwood, and removed from an even aged spruce stand partly by chain-saw, partly by chemicals (Tormona 100)— about 80% of the stumps inhabitedArmillaria root rot 2–6 years after removal. In the stumps of chemically treated alder the fungus used to form more and better developed rhizomorphs. On dry sites it was more frequent than on wet sites. The settlement byArmillaria started two years after treatment with the formation of myceliumfans; it continues for at least 6–8 years.
