Summary

By appropriate variation of the parameters involved in the followingP t distributions: I) Planck’s distribution (PD), II) the distributionP t exp [−P t/P 0] dP t , (LD) and III) the distribution (2/α 2) exp [−P 2 t /α 2]P t dP t (BD), a best fit was determined to the experimentalP t distribution using thes 2-test. The results show that the experimental distribution may be fitted in a satisfactory manner to the theoretical distributions (PD) and (LD) but not to (BD). The average values ofP t and the parameters, thus obtained, are 296 MeV/c, 308 MeV/c and 292 MeV/c corresponding tokT=0.122 GeV,p 0 c=0.154 GeV andα=0.387 GeV/c, respectively. The parameters for the high-energy group (energy of the primary greater than 4.5 TeV) and the low-energy group (energy of the primary less than 4.5 TeV) show no significant difference andP t remains constant for different values of the primary energy.
