Exact solution of Peters-Mathews equations for any orbital eccentricity

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

The standard (Peters-Mathews) model for binary star orbital damping under gravitational wave emission is completely solved in analytic form, for any value of the initial orbital eccentricity, resulting into auniversal decay scenario. The limits of validity of the model are established in a general handy form. Possible extensions of these results to higher-order post-Newtonian models are discussed.
