Summary
A general systematic analysis based on a double Regge model is suggested for high-energy hadron collisions producing three particles in the final state. It is intended only for events in the central region of the Dalitz plot where all two-particle invariant masses are high. The procedure is described in detail and applied to two existing experiments:A) π+p→π+π0p at 8 G GeV/c,B) π−p→K 01 01 n at 12 GeV/c. The results are encouraging.

The statistics of this experiment are soon to be much improved.
A parallel analysis of the π+π+n events from the same experiment has been attempted. The results are similar though quantitatively less satisfactory. We believe that there is here a large contamination due, for example, to resonance tails. The results are therefore not presented pending a more detailed analysis.
See,e.g.,R. J. N. Phillips andW. Rarita:Phys. Rev.,139, B 1336 (1965). Little is known about the baryon trajectories. Our numbers for these are obtained simply by parallel extrapolation from the particles.
The values ofa andb determined from (A. 15) are too low and depend strongly on the control parameter μ, both of which facts are indicative of a sizeable background.
The detection efficiency can vary by as much as a factor 5.
The parameters for the ρ and A2 trajectories are well-known. See,e.g., ref. (6).R. J. N. Phillips andW. Rarita:Phys. Rev.,139, B 1336 (1965). The intercepts for K* and K** are obtained by parallel extrapolations.

We use here a definition of the “width” different from that given in the appendix of ref. (1). The present definition is more appropriate for a Gaussian peak.
