Gravitational effect of electromagnetic radiation

Summary

The effect of the gravitational field, produced by a pulse of electromagnetic radiation, on a test particle is evaluated by using the linearized form of the Einstein field equations. It is found that the impulse transmitted to the test particle in the direction of propagation is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the momentum change of the photon which occurs in the gravitational red-shift.
