Abstract

A thermodynamic description of the Fe-Mn-V-C system has been obtained by combining the consistent thermodynamic descriptions of lower-order systems by the use of thermodynamic models for the Gibbs energy of various phases. A number of calculated diagrams which are of interest to the high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels are presented. Though Mn increases the solubility of VC in the austenite, the effect is found to be very small.
