Abstract
Together with the X-ray study, the Mössbauer study of nitrided surface of iron has been performed by using an electron counter with the back scattering geometry. By comparing with the Mössbauer transmission spectra of chemically synthesized powder of nitrides, it is confirmed that compounds of nitrogen on iron surface are mixture of Fe4N and Fe3N structure with certain nonstoichiometry.
